Design, architecture, art, and photography book lovers are invited this week to a special “closed door” sale on the second floor of Rizzoli Bookstore on New York’s 57th Street. Although the facade has been boarded up since April 11 following an unsuccessful bid to landmark the building, which will be demolished, the front doors will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on both Thursday, May 1, and Friday, May 2. Books will be discounted at 50%.

This will also be a final opportunity for the Designers & Books community and friends in New York to admire the interior of what has been called “the most beautiful bookstore in the world.” Details include cast iron chandeliers, ornately decorated vaulting, and a luminous Diocletian window.

New York’s Rizzoli Bookstore, which began operations at 31 on West 57th Street, a six-story townhouse, in 1985 (following a previous ouster from its Fifth Avenue store), was established in 1964. The store is actively seeking a new location. Information will be posted on Designers & Books.
