From the Publisher. Originally published in 1926 in Russia, Baggage is one of numerous remarkable children’s books created by the premiere team of artist and illustrator Vladimir Lebedev and poet, translator, and children’s author Samuil Marshak. Throughout the 1920s, avant-garde Russian artists and writers worked together with fervent dedication to create a new type of children’s literature, drawing on the aesthetic innovations and social and political philosophy of the period to inspire and stimulate young minds.

This facsimile edition of Baggage reproduces the original book in size, shape, and design, with a new English translation by Jamey Gambrell in place of the Russian and an afterword by curator Sarah Suzuki.
