The Fall season is underway at Designers & Books. Through September 30, you can enter our latest “Design Books to Win” drawing for copies of two books from Lars Müller Publishers: industrial designer Jasper Morrison’s new book, The Good Life: Perceptions of the Ordinary, and 100 Years of Swiss Graphic Design.

Our Online Book Fair now features circa 700 titles in architecture, design, art, and photography, from publishers and rare and out-of-print book dealers. And, if you in New York October 11, you can also browse and buy some of these books in person at the pop-up design book fair organized by Designers & Books at Dwell magazine’s first Dwell on Design NY. Summer may be winding down but Designers and Books has been ramping up. Through September 2, you can enter our current “Design Books to Win” drawing to win one of five copies of Dezeen Book of Interviews. We post new giveaways of recently published design books each week. This past month we also posted an interview with Head of Cultural Engagement at BMW, Thomas Girst, about his recent book on BMW’s artist-painted racecars, as well as an interview with Dezeen magazine founder Marcus Fairs. With summer in full swing, this month we featured a talk with Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute curator Harold Koda about the Met’s current exhibition and accompanying catalogue on fashion designer Charles James. We’ll be giving away copies of the catalogue in our next installment of “Design Books to Win,” starting July 29. We also published Witold Rybczynski’s review of Being: An Architect by Ian Ritchie and brought you special summer-themed lists of books on landscape design, bicycle design, and more. This June we paid tribute to the late, great graphic designer Massimo Vignelli, and looked at the books he found most inspiring. We also featured curated book lists on a variety of subjects, ranging from art to business, and their intersection with design. Next month brings an interview with Harold Koda, Curator in Charge at The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, who talks about the Met’s current exhibition on fashion designer Charles James and the book that accompanies the show. Our Wrap-Up & Preview is back, now appearing at the end of each month with highlights from the previous weeks and a foretaste of what’s to come. Over the past several weeks we featured a book list from Anthony Dunne of Dunne & Raby and an essay on “digital flattening” by logo designer Mark Fox, who also sent some new additions to his book list. We celebrated our three-year anniversary with a look back at some book lists from our archive and and we also posted themed book lists honoring the birthdays of architects Louis Kahn and Mies van der Rohe and in collaboation with CreativeMornings and its March theme of “Hidden.” More...

This week, we published our fourth book list in collaboration with the breakfast lecture series CreativeMornings, inspired by the series’ February theme of “Rebel.” Together with AIGA/NY, we hosted our first-ever “live online” book signing, with a designer always willing to try something new—Stefan Sagmeister. We’ll have photos soon to show you what went on. Next week brings a book list from frog design founder Hartmut Esslinger and we announce the winner of the Designers & Books first annual Design Book of the Year Award. More...
