Booksellers
The following booksellers are uniquely qualified to serve the book-related needs of those interested in design. At some of these booksellers, the interest, expertise, and inventory are focused exclusively on design (whether architecture, fashion, graphic design, interior design, and/or product design). At others, if the inventory is diversified beyond design, you can still count on finding a noteworthy and well-edited design department.
Another distinguishing characteristic of these booksellers is that they are all sympathetic to the idea of encouraging a sense of community among those who are passionate about books. Accordingly, each seller listed here has expressed a willingness to provide assistance, over the phone or in person, to members of the Designers & Books community who have book acquisition-related questions.
We should mention that some of the books that appear on the designers’ book lists may qualify as rare or for other reasons may be hard to secure. Some, but not all, of the booksellers we list will be able to help with these more specialized needs.
This list is in the early stages of formation. If you know of additional booksellers that meet the above criteria and should be included—whether in the U. S. or anywhere else—we would be pleased to hear from you.

Meet Me by the Fountain: An Inside History of the Mall by Alexandra Lange
Meet Me by the Fountain: An Inside History of the Mall
By Alexandra Lange
Publisher: Bloomsbury
Published: June 2022
Chronicles postwar architects’ and merchants’ invention of the shopping mall, revealing how the design of these marketplaces played an integral role in their cultural ascent. Publishers Weekly writes, “Contending that malls answer ‘the basic human need’ of bringing people together, influential design critic Lange advocates for retrofitting abandoned shopping centers into college campuses, senior housing, and ‘ethnocentric marketplaces’ catering to immigrant communities. Lucid and well researched, this is an insightful study of an overlooked and undervalued architectural form.”
