Fritz Frenkler

Product/Industrial Designer / Germany / f/p design; Technische Universität München (TUM)

Born in 1954, Fritz Frenkler graduated with a degree in industrial design from the Braunschweig University of Art (HBK Braunschweig) in 1983.

Frenkler worked for frogdesign Germany and became design director of frogdesign USA. In 1986, he established and then went on to lead frogdesign Asia. Between 1992 and 1999, he was president of Wiege Wilkhahn Entwicklungsgesellschaft, before becoming president of Deutsche Bahn Medien GmbH and chief designer of Deutsche Bahn AG.

In 2000, Fritz Frenkler and Anette Ponholzer established f/p design deutschland gmbh, followed by f/p design japan inc., in 2003.

Frenkler is regional advisor for ICSID (International Council of Societies of Industrial Design). He is a longstanding member of the Board of iF design (Industrie Forum Design Hannover) and chairman of the jury of the iF product design awards. He is one of the founding members of universal design e.V. (2006), a nonprofit association with a keen interest in all aspects of universal design.

Fritz Frenkler was named an honorary professor in the Department of Industrial Design at the Braunschweig University of Art (HBK Braunschweig) in 2005. Since 2006, he has held a chair as University Professor of Industrial Design at the Technische Universität München (TUM).
