André Leon Talley

August 2013.

I did not know this author. I met her at the local Balducci’s in Scarsdale in Westchester, New York, and we became fast friends. Her sense of memory and telling her saga of growing up is akin to Truman Capote. A rich landscape of horror, wonderment, and charm, Southern Gothic at its best. I recommend her—this book and her others, including The Liar’s Club, and the book of poems Sinner’s Welcome. She is fierce, honest, candid, and sometimes shocking, yet you come away feeling as if you have read something that impacts your life.
