Sam Hecht’s Profile
Sam Hecht is co-founder of the design office Industrial Facility, alongside his partner, Kim Colin. They have developed production projects for companies ranging from Yamaha and Issey Miyake to Herman Miller and Established & Sons. Hecht is probably best known for his work with Muji, as world designer and advisor since 2002. Hecht's belief is in the importance of design as a means of simplifying our lives in an inspirational way.
Hecht’s work has been well documented, with over forty international awards, including five IF Hannover Gold Awards. His work can be found in the permanent collections of The Museum of Modern Art, New York; Centre Pompidou, Paris; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; and the Chicago Art Institute, among others, and it was the subject of the exhibition “Industrial Facility: Some Recent Projects,” held at the Design Museum, London, in 2008. Hecht was appointed “Royal Designer for Industry” in 2008, as well as being nominated for the Prince Philip Designers Prize. In 2011 he was awarded “Design of the Year” for furniture design by the Design Museum, London.
